چکیده
To protect people against sleep disturbances and to enhance general quality of life, the World Health Organization (Berglund et al. 2000) recommend a maximum sound level of 30 dB (LAeq, 22-06) indoor for continuous background noise with individual noise events not exceeding 45 dB(A). Those recommendations have been adopted and implemented in the Brussels Capital area with a noise management plan which was created and elaborated by the Brussels Institute for Management of the Environment (BIME).

Variability of Sleep Duration Is Related to Subjective Sleep Quality and Subjective Well-Being: An Actigraphy Study
While there is a large body of evidence that poor subjective sleep quality is related to lower subjective well-being, studies on the relation of objective sleep measures and subjective well-being are fewer in number and less consistent in their findings. Using data of the Survey of Mid-Life in the United States (MIDUS), we investigated whether duration and quality of sleep, assessed by actigrap...

WITH MOUNTING LABORATORY EVIDENCE THAT SLEEP DURATION INFLUENCES IMMUNE FUNCTION, BLOOD PRESSURE, GLUCOSE METABOLISM, HORMONAL regulation, and appetite control, and that sleep loss can lead to impairments in performance, mental health, immune function, appetite regulation, and glucose metabolism,1-6 epidemiologists have begun to investigate sleep as a risk factor in cohort studies.7-10 This rai...

It has been documented that nearly 25-30% of automobile collisions are potentially associated with driving fatigue. We have little control over sleep propensity when chronically sleep-deprived or suffer from an underlying sleep insufficiency. Drowsy driving is not only a personal but also a public hazard and commercial drivers with alternate shifts are critically at risk. People on monotonous d...

STUDY OBJECTIVES To determine the relationship between hypothalamic pituitary axis (HPA) dysregulation, vagal functioning, and sleep problems in women with metastatic breast cancer. DESIGN Sleep was assessed by means of questionnaires and wrist actigraphy for 3 consecutive nights. The ambulatory, diurnal variation in salivary cortisol levels was measured at 5 time points over 2 days. Vagal re...

Objectives: Sleep disorders are prevalent among elderly patients admitted to coronary care units (CCUs). Moreover, the sleep disorders intensify with age-related changes. Thus, this study aimed to determine the effect of white noise on the sleep of elderly patients admitted to CCUs. Methods & Materials: This quasi-experimental research included 40 patients who were admitted to CCU.&n...
